Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

  • In a bowl, add warm water, sugar, and yeast. Mix gently and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. The mixture should become foamy. This shows the yeast is active and ready.

Prepare the Dough

  • Add flour, salt, and olive oil into the yeast mixture. Mix using a spoon until a soft dough forms. The dough should feel slightly sticky but easy to handle.

Knead the Dough

  • Place the dough on a clean surface. Knead for about 8 to 10 minutes. Use gentle pressure and fold the dough repeatedly. It should become smooth and elastic.

Let the Dough Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour. It should double in size.

Shape the Bread

  • Punch down the dough gently. Shape it into a loaf or round form. Place it on a baking tray. Let it rest again for 20 to 30 minutes.

Bake the Bread

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the bread for about 25 to 30 minutes. The top should turn golden brown. The bread should sound hollow when tapped.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove the bread from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve while warm. Enjoy with butter or your favorite spread.

Notes

  • Use whole wheat flour for a healthier version
  • Add herbs for extra flavor
  • Brush butter on top after baking
  • Add garlic for a savory twist
  • Use milk instead of water for softness
