Ingredients

  • 5 medium apples peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Prepare the Apples

  • Peel and slice the apples into even pieces. Place them in a mixing bowl. Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice. Mix well until all apples are coated evenly with sweet and spiced flavor.

Make the Crisp Topping

  • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar and salt. Pour melted butter over the mixture. Use your hands or spoon to mix until it becomes crumbly and slightly moist.

Assemble the Dish

  • Grease a baking dish lightly. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the dish. Make sure the layer is flat. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples to cover them fully.

Bake the Apple Crisp

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the dish in the oven and bake for thirty-five to forty minutes. The top should turn golden brown and the apples should become soft and bubbling.

Cool Before Serving

  • Remove the dish from the oven carefully. Let it cool for ten minutes. This helps the filling settle and makes serving easier.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Scoop into bowls and serve warm. You can add a scoop of ice cream on top. Enjoy the mix of soft apples and crispy topping.

Notes

  • Use a mix of sweet and sour apples for better flavor.
  • Add chopped nuts for extra crunch.
  • Use less sugar for a lighter version.
  • Add raisins for a different texture.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for a classic touch.
