Aussie meat pie recipe is one of my favorite comfort foods. It is warm, rich and very filling. This Aussie meat pie recipe is perfect for lunch or dinner. The flaky crust and juicy filling make it special.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 150 g butter cold, cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 300 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg for brushing

Instructions
 

Make the Dough

  • Add flour and cold butter to a bowl. Mix until it looks like crumbs. Slowly add cold water and form dough. Do not overmix. Wrap it and chill for 20 minutes.

Cook the Meat Filling

  • Heat a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook for one minute. Then add ground beef and cook until brown.

Add Flavor to the Filling

  • Sprinkle flour over the meat. Mix well to remove lumps. Add beef broth slowly while stirring. Add tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until thick and smooth.

Cool the Filling

  • Turn off the heat and let the filling cool. This step helps keep the pastry crisp. Hot filling can make the dough soggy.

Roll the Dough

  • Take the chilled dough and divide it into two parts. Roll one part for the base. Place it in a pie dish and press gently.

Fill the Pie

  • Add the cooled meat filling into the base. Spread it evenly. Do not overfill, or it may leak during baking.

Cover and Seal

  • Roll the second dough piece. Place it over the filling. Press edges to seal. Cut small slits on top for steam to escape.

Brush and Bake

  • Brush the top with beaten egg. Bake at 180°C for 35–40 minutes. Bake until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • Use store-bought pastry for quick cooking
  • Add carrots or peas for extra flavor
  • Try chicken instead of beef
  • Keep butter cold for flaky crust
  • Let pie rest before cutting
