Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese

Instructions

Melt the Butter

  • Place a saucepan over medium heat. Add butter and let it melt slowly. Make sure it does not brown. This step creates the base for a smooth and creamy sauce.

Add Flour

  • Add flour to the melted butter. Whisk continuously for one to two minutes. This forms a light paste called roux. It helps thicken the cheese dip later.

Pour Milk Slowly

  • Slowly add milk while whisking. Keep stirring to avoid lumps. The mixture will start to thicken and become smooth and creamy as it cooks.

Add Cream Cheese

  • Add cream cheese into the mixture. Stir until fully melted. This adds extra richness and makes the dip silky and smooth.

Mix in Cheese

  • Add shredded cheddar cheese gradually. Stir until it melts completely. The sauce will turn thick, creamy, and bright yellow.

Season the Dip

  • Add salt, garlic powder and paprika. Stir well to combine all flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed for balance.

Serve Warm

  • Remove from heat once smooth and creamy. Serve immediately with pretzels, chips or bread. Enjoy the warm and cheesy goodness.

Notes

  • Use sharp cheddar for stronger flavor.
  • Add jalapeños for a spicy version.
  • Use mozzarella for a milder taste.
  • Keep heat low to avoid burning.
  • Add extra milk for thinner consistency.
